transport logistic, 12th International Exhibition for Logistics, Telematics and Transport, gets under way on 12 May 2009 with an opening discussion featuring high-ranking personalities from industry and politics: Germany´s Minister of Transport, Wolfgang Tiefensee, will be among those airing their views in a discussion entitled 'Mapping out the future in a time of uncertainty – what is the way forward for global logistics? The global economic crisis is having an effect on almost all segments of the transport and logistics industry. Associations and research institutes around the globe are warning of a severe slowdown.
In Germany, for example, the 'Logistics Indicator' (February survey) of the Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL) and the Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW), shows that the mood in the industry is at a level unprecedented for the country. The indicator has fallen by over 30 percent year-on-year. "It looks as if in the current recession, we do not have the regional buffers that in the past have evened out the ups and downs in the economic cycle. The crisis is global and it is of historic dimensions, " said Raimund Klinkner, BVL Chairman. Along with Germany´s Minister of Transport, Wolfgang Tiefensee, Klinkner is also taking part in the panel discussion at the opening of transport logistic 2009 on 12 May, starting at 10 a.m. (Forum, Hall B3). Also on the panel is the Director-General of the European Commission´s Directorate-General Energy and Transport, Matthias Ruete, Panalpina World Transport Holding President & CEO, Monika Ribar, and Kühne + Nagel President, Klaus-Michael Kühne. The discussion will be chaired by Katja Dofel from n-tv.

Intersolar-09 Illuminates The Growing American Photovoltaic Market
The USA is the fourth largest solar energy market worldwide – and thanks to improved government assistance the USA is currently on the right track for strengthening this position. In the all new "Intersolar U.S. Market Pavilion", the future developments, perspectives and technological trends on the American photovoltaic and solar thermal market are the focus of Intersolar, the world's largest trade fair for solar technology taking place from 27 – 29 May. With the new "Intersolar U.S. Market Pavilion" and the conference "Solar Gigawatts for North America" on 28 May 2009, the trade fair is building an important thematic bridge over the Atlantic this year.
"Yes, we can!" This famous election slogan by the new American president Barack Obama is also the key note of his environmental policy: The target is to reduce dependence on oil as well as emissions of climate-damaging exhaust gases through the growth of renewable energy such as solar energy. President Obama has pledged 150 million dollars for an environmental energy plan over the next ten years. The PV Group, an initiative of the International Semiconductor Association SEMI, has already identified rapid market growth – and predicts that the American solar market will continue to grow significantly over the next few years. A huge market is looming in the USA, due, especially, to the amount of land area available for the expansion of photovoltaic plants. The USA's dynamic industry development in the areas of photovoltaics and solarthermics is the subject of the "Intersolar U.S. Market Pavilion" at the Intersolar international trade fair for solar technology.
The American photovoltaic market is booming – The government economic stimulus package has strengthened the manufacturers' position
The PV Group reckons that the USA along with Germany and Japan will be one of the world's largest photovoltaic markets in the foreseeable future. "We are very optimistic about the growth potential in the U.S.", says Dan Martin, Executive Vice President for PV Group. "Conditions have never been more encouraging to strengthen the entire photovoltaic manufacturing supply chain and enable the U.S. market to play a significant role in solar energy production."
Alone this year, the association has predicted new installations with a total output of one gigawatt – in 2010, the number is to increase to two gigawatts. The reason for this is the announcement by President Barack Obama to double the percentage of renewable energy as well as the US economic stimulus package which offers sizable financial incentives for investments in production plants: Established and innovative photovoltaic manufacturers can profit in the form of government aid or loans. The new reform in the "Investment Tax Credits" (ITC) creates an eight-year planning reliability for photovoltaics. Both private and commercial investors can receive a tax credit of 30 percent of the system costs.
Photovoltaic plants on the scale of power plants
In addition to the government support, the geographical features make the boom of photovoltaics in the USA possible: Around half of the land shows solar radiation values of more than 1, 300 kWh per square yard and year – this especially benefits the construction of photovoltaic plants on the scale of power plants.
High growth rates and the enormous market potential of the US American solar thermal market attract foreign suppliers
The solar thermal market is also booming with the new administration: In 2008, market growth was at over 50 percent. The growth potential of the American market is attracting European solar thermal suppliers. Although in 2007, three-quarters of the collectors installed in the USA were still being produced by domestic firms, imports are gaining in importance. The number of imported flat plate collectors and evacuated tube collectors has increased more than tenfold within two years – this was the result of an investigation by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Official Energy Statistics from the US Government.
Favourable conditions for solar thermal world-scale plants
The "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan" adopted in mid February, also known as the Stimulus Package, makes it possible for private investors to take a tax credit of 30 percent on amounts invested for a solar thermal plant. The US American umbrella organisation for renewable energy, the "American Council on Renewable Energy" (ACORE) thus reckons with a significant increase in new installations of solar thermal plants. The American energy firm, Vanir Energy, is planning the construction of world-scale plants in the next few months: "We are going to invest 14 million US dollars in solar thermal plants", the company announced from North Carolina. European importers will also profit from the favourable conditions.
Information on the American solar market first-hand
The contact point for exhibitors, visitors and representatives of the trade press, is the "Intersolar U.S. Market Pavilion" at the Intersolar 2009. The 140 m2 large exhibition area in Hall B3 offers the ideal platform for all those interested in the American solar market and who want first-hand information. The main exhibitor is Solar Promotion International, a subsidiary of the Solar Promotion GmbH in Pforzheim. This company is hosting the parallel trade fair Intersolar North America in San Francisco from 14 to 16 July together with the Freiburg Management and Marketing International GmbH (FMMI). Contact representatives from American institutions, publishers and consulting firms will be available to provide information to visitors. The official partners of the "Intersolar U.S. Market Pavilion" are the American Solar Energy Society, the U.S. Department of Commerce, Greentech Media, Prometheus Institute for Sustainable Development as well as Zackin Publications.
Another thematic highlight is the conference "Solar Gigawatts for North America" on 28 May 2009 in the ICM Munich. The conference in the Intersolar congress programme has developed in the meantime into the most important symposium for the transatlantic expansion of business relationships. The key issues cover the areas of Marketing, Sales, Project Financing, Planning and Installation. In this way the conference is clearly oriented to solar experts in the non-technical area and the management of internationally-operating companies.
In addition, this year, the trade fair program will actively promote the establishment of contacts and the exchange of ideas between American and German experts.

Asian Aerospace 2009
Reed Exhibitions, the world’s leading events’ organizer, has announced that its exhibitor recruitment for Asian Aerospace 2009 is over 60% ahead compared with the same period last show, and that it is to introduce several new marketing initiatives at next year’s commercial aerospace and civil aviation event in Hong Kong.
To date, industry leaders including Boeing, Bombardier,Lufthansa Technik, SR Technics, MTU and CFM have confirmed their presence at Asian Aerospace 2009, as the level of interest in the commercial aerospace and civil aviation sector has surged in the Asia-Pacific market in recent months. The present infrastructure and aviation environment in Asia still lags behind the more sophisticated networks, service and product levels in North America or Europe. This gap provides abundant business opportunities for suppliers from the commercial aerospace and civil aviation supply chain to enlarge their customer base in Asia.
“Against the current uncertain economic backdrop, we are very encouraged by the strong support we have received from our customers. This clearly demonstrates the confidence the industry has in the Asian, and particularly Chinese, market, ” said Richard Thiele, Global Head of Sales for Reed Exhibitions’ Aerospace & Aviation Group. “We are confident that over the upcoming weeks, we will be able to confirm even more exhibiting companies. We are also delighted that the exhibitor retention for Aircraft Interiors Asia and Air Freight Asia is healthy at over 80% with sales, like Asian Aerospace, tracking ahead same time last period.”
Reed Exhibitions also announced several new marketing initiatives for Asian Aerospace 2009. The event will feature zones that group similar exhibitors together. Such an arrangement will provide focus to visitors looking for alternative suppliers and vendors within certain niches such as Airport Cities, Airport Terminal Asia, Training, and MRO. In response to customer feedback, the Asia Pacific Airline Training Symposium will be held contiguous to the Training pavilion to deliver greater synergy and value for customers visiting the exhibitors and attending the symposium..
“Asian Aerospace focuses on creating a professional, business-conducive three-day marketplace for the industry’s stakeholders to trade, source, network and forge strategic partnerships and alliances, ” observed Paul Lee, Vice President Asian Aerospace. “This new unique positioning of
focusing only on commercial aerospace and civil aviation with no defence or military elements, no public days and flying display, is likely another reason for the growing levels of participation.”

An Innovation For Everyone at IFE09
The word ‘innovation’ has come under fire in recent years. Within new product development circles, it has become a synonym for anything that is vaguely new-to-market. Changing that perception and challenging the way the industry thinks about innovation is a bridge that marketers must cross on a daily basis. So Fresh RM, the organiser behind IFE09 has come to the rescue.
With a truly groundbreaking approach to the industry’s most over-used noun, the next installment of the UK’s largest and most respected food and drink trade event is promising to deliver serious global innovation in every conceivable format when it opens its doors on 15 – 18 March 2009 at ExCeL in London.
“No venue will ever have housed so many of the world’s most genuinely innovative food and drink products, ” commented Paul MacDonald, Event Director of IFE09. “We have really gone back to square one with the meaning of innovation and are being ruthless when it comes to meeting the criteria. With this as the theme for the show, it is essential for any company looking to develop and have a future in today’s ultra-competitive industry to get involved.”
In 2007, IFE attracted over 24, 000 of the world’s most senior food and drink buyers from the retail, food service, wholesale, distribution and manufacturing sectors. Decision makers from retail giants including Asda, Co-op, Morrisons, Marks &
Spencer and Harvey Nichols attended along with foodservice representatives from the likes of Pret a Manger, Carluccios, Pizza Express, Claridges, Hilton Hotels, Marriott International and Novotel, all looking to source products and do business with over 1500 manufacturers, distributors and suppliers. Of those that visited, 14 per cent came from outside the UK, highlighting the event’s increasing international appeal and revealing an ever-growing opportunity for exhibitors to widen their customer base overseas.
And if the event’s reputation for true innovation in products, trend analysis, thought leadership, networking, tastings and practical demonstrations isn’t enough to attract those global purchasing power-houses, then the addition of two new exciting attractions certainly will be.
Innovation Live – in association with Mintel – underscores the whole raison d’etre for IFE09. Occupying 500m2, the event’s star attraction will showcase a selection of the world’s most innovative products, as sourced by Mintel’s Global New Product Development team. Visitors will be able to enjoy a uniquely interactive experience where they can see, touch and taste innovation as well as being given advice on how best to source cutting-edge products.
For the foodservice visitors, the brand new Skillery, run in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs, will be a live cookery demonstration area incorporating the latest in flavour trends, menu design and innovative cooking styles. To give visitors a seriously ‘up-close-and-personal’ insight into the latest developments in the foodservice sector, the attraction will be split into three smaller sessions, running concurrently for the duration of the show. These will be themed in-line with the most up-to-the-minute trends driving business in the foodservice sector and are likely to cover health, sustainability and provenance to name a few.
Simon Duggan from Dr Antonio Martin’s UK exhibited at last year’s event and summed it up perfectly: "As a new brand looking to establish ourselves in an increasingly competitive market, we found IFE07 to be an excellent launch platform. It was our first major trade event and as well as speaking to all of the major multiples, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, we also made contact with major foodservice companies and more diverse clients such as British Airways and the Lawn Tennis Association. Overall IFE07 delivered tremendous results and met all of
our objectives: to launch a new product, generate leads, create brand awareness and gauge market interest."
